Miranda J. Petroviak

Miranda J. Petroviak was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1986.  Her father an architect and her mother who loves singing, it was only natural for her to pursue the arts.  In her high school years, she won a State Award for the Scholastic Art awards 2005 and had her art hung on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum.  Later that year, she donated a piece of art to the Children hospital's permanent collection.  In 2010, she received her BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  This is where she discovered her passion for oil painting and drawing.  Since then, she has been a member of Milwaukee’s first all female art collective, From Here to Her.  In 2014, her art collective and her were commissioned to design the Alverno college billboards for their new campaign.  Recently, with inspiration from her fellow artist friend and mentor, Jeff Sadowski, she has branched out into the Popsurrealism movement.

Miranda's artwork expresses the idea to escape the reality of everyday life and live in a subconscious, fantasy world.  She combines images and stories from her childhood, current personal experiences, imagination, dreams, and illustrates them in a playful manner.  She is inspired by the surrealist movement, the pop-surrealism movement, fairy-tales, children’s books, Japanese manga, science fiction, indie rock and alternative music, music videos, and anything that is strange and bizarre.  Sometimes her art is merely escapism and other times, it comments on social and environmental issues in today's society.
